How Gaviscon Works
Gaviscon contains alginates, which are derived from brown seaweed. Unlike traditional antacids that only neutralize stomach acid, Gaviscon forms a foaming protective barrier on top of the stomach contents. This barrier prevents acid from splashing up into the esophagus, providing fast, effective, and long-lasting relief from heartburn and acid reflux. The foam barrier typically lasts up to four hours, much longer than standard antacids.
